Recently we had put a stop payment on a check that was paid out to an employee, who had quit. This employee had owed us money for a truck we had sold to him. We put the stop payment on and he went to a check cashing carryout and they cashed the check. Two different banks have said we are not responsible to pay the store, but the store is claiming we do owe them the money. Who is responsible?

I am pretty sure that the check cashing store is responsible. They should have made sure the check was good before they cashed it. Had they notified that bank or called you they would have known. This would have been no different if the check had been stolen. They should go after the person who cashed the check.
